Call forwarding guide
How to forward calls on RingCentral.
RingCentral forwarding lives in your extension's Call Handling and Forwarding settings. You can ring your own phones first and your OnAnswer247 number after, or send every call there at once.
Forward during your hours
- Open My Extension in your RingCentral online account.
- Click Settings, then Call Handling and Forwarding.
- Click User Hours.
- Add your OnAnswer247 number as a forwarding number. You can add up to 10 forwarding numbers per extension.
- Set how many rings each phone gets, then pick Simultaneously to ring every phone at once, or Sequentially to ring them in order. With sequential ringing, put your own phones first so you can still pick up.
- Click Save.
Calls can go to the desktop and mobile app (you must be logged in), your desk phone, added phone numbers, or another extension. You may need permission from your account admin to change these settings.
Forward after hours
After Hours handling starts when your User Hours end. If your schedule is set to 24/7, set User Hours first. Pick one:
- Forward Calls: sends the call to several numbers in order and applies your greeting settings.
- Unconditional Forwarding: sends every call to one number at once, with no other settings applied. Enter your OnAnswer247 number and click Save.
Turn forwarding off
- Return to Call Handling and Forwarding in your extension settings.
- Switch off the destinations you no longer want, or remove your OnAnswer247 number, then click Save.
Test it
Once you forward to your OnAnswer247 number, call your RingCentral number from another phone. Check that your own phones ring in the order you set and that the assistant answers when you do not pick up.
Common pitfalls
- With simultaneous ringing, some devices may ring late because of network differences. If timing matters, use sequential ringing.
- With unconditional forwarding, an unanswered call goes to the destination's own voicemail. It does not come back to RingCentral voicemail.
- These steps follow RingCentral's 2021 settings guide. The app may look newer today, but the settings carry the same names.
