Call forwarding guide
How to forward calls on Google Voice.
Google Voice forwards calls to linked numbers. Link your OnAnswer247 number and calls to your Voice number ring there too. Read the limit below first: Google says forwarding to an automated system is unsupported.
Link your OnAnswer247 number
- Open the Voice app.
- In the top left, tap Menu, then Settings. Under Account, tap Devices and numbers.
- Tap New linked number and enter your OnAnswer247 number as the destination.
- Verify it. For a mobile number, tap Send code and enter the code from the text. For a landline, tap Verify by phone, then Call, and enter the code Google reads out. Tap Verify.
You can link up to 6 numbers. A number already linked to another Voice number cannot be linked again.
Turn forwarding off
- Open the Voice app.
- In the top left, tap Menu, then Settings. Under Account, tap Devices and numbers.
- Next to the linked number, tap Remove, then Remove again to confirm.
Per-contact rules on a computer
To forward only some callers, use custom call forwarding at voice.google.com. Rules can be created, edited, or deleted on a computer only; on a phone you can only view them.
- On a computer, go to Google Voice.
- At the top right, click Settings. On the left, click Calls.
- Under Custom call forwarding, click Create a rule and pick the contacts it covers.
- Under Take the following action, click Forward calls, pick the linked number, and click Save.
Test it
Once you forward to your OnAnswer247 number, call your Google Voice number from another phone. The assistant should answer.
Common pitfalls
- Google states that forwarding calls from a Voice number to an automated system is unsupported. Test carefully before you rely on it.
- The linked-number feature is not available to SIP Link users. If you are unsure, ask your IT admin.
- Devices switched on under My devices in your account settings ring as well. Switch off the ones you do not want to ring.
